Catherine has been suggesting a visit to East Coast Park for a while already, especially after the disappointing Labrador Park trip. We wish to let Darius watch the sea up close and also get near the beach.
So today, we finally put words into actions and took a cab down via the new KPE, which consists of a long long tunnel of roads. According to the cab driver, he claims that this is a shorter way than TPE -> Changi -> ECP and we trusted him. The trip did seem a little shorter, but the total cab fee was still over 20 dollars.
Upon arriving there, we were glad to see that the weather was cooling and windy, the perfect weather for beach trips.
Darius had just been woken up from his nap on the cab, and didn’t seem to care where he was.
After carrying him a bit and talking to him, he gradually got out of his sulky mood and started to observe his surroundings, though the strong wind was preventing him from opening his eyes fully.
I then took out the carrier we brought along and carried Darius with it.
He seemed to enjoy watching things from this position as we continued to walk down the park slowly, before deciding to have a short break at the nearby Burger King outlet.
While we were eating, Catherine mentioned that she found the lady opposite us familiar, and it was until her elder son returned that she could almost confirm that she was Ivy aka mamaseah from her K.I.D.S. blog. (Cat: because I’ve been an avid reader of her blog from the time I was preggy! It was exciting for me to see someone I have been reading about in real life but I was shy.
) However, we were held back on how we could introduce ourselves, until I decided to carry Darius along with me to approach her and family.
It was a little awkward in the beginning, but very quickly she recognised Darius as she had been finding us familiar too. We had a short but enjoyable conversation with her and family. Catherine was earlier telling me about reading Ivy’s blog post on building sand castles and that her family would come to East Coast Park very often, and little did we know there would be such coincidence! What a small world this is indeed! ^^
(Cat: It makes me think about whether anyone reading our blog will see us in real life? If so, don’t be afraid to come up to us to self-intro and chat! We are very friendly people.
)
Bidding our farewell, we proceeded on with our stroll. On the way, I noticed a couple ferrying their children on child seats on their bicycles (I supposed they were rented). Just when I was about to comment to Catherine this would be a good way to ferry Darius on our bicycle, a terrible sight unfolded before us.
Somewhat, the father’s bicycle came to a sudden halt (his child was seated in front of him on the child seat), and the entire bicycle did a full 180 degrees flip forward, with the child landing on the ground face first, followed by the father, and the bicycle followed to fall on them.
The child of course cried badly as the father kept on rumbling angrily, seemingly blaming on the mother or the bicycle for the mishap. Seemed that he was blaming his wife for cutting into his lane and forcing himself to brake the bike. The mother, on the other hand, was busying herself coaxing and consoling her injured and frightened child. Fortunately the child did not seem to be badly injured, as he probably had cushioned himself subconsciously from the fall with his arms.
After witnessing this ordeal, I’m not going to consider getting the baby seat anymore, at least not for the moment. It seems to be some kind of omen…
Anyway, we proceeded to stroll on. When we arrived at a small jetty where many were fishing, we decided to push the stroller through the grass patch and take a rest there.
The sun was beginning to set then, and so the place was cooling and windy again. We had fun taking photos and showing Darius the sea and beach, this time in close proximity.

Hi,
Indeed, even for a person like me who loves to cycle and is quite good at it, I can’t guarantee that no accident would happen while ferrying Darius on board. ^^|
Haha, when I first see the trio walked into BK, I noticed that the big rounded eye baby looks familiar, but I just can’t remember where I’ve seen him. I looked at the parents also seems to have seen somewhere but can’t remember where. So I thought my memory must have played a tricked on me, as it alwasy does.
Then when you walked over, then I raked my brains again, that’s why the few seconds pause as I was trying to think was it baby darius or damien or dylan. I alwasy get these 3 names mixed up :p Phew I got it right!!!!
Nice meeting you guys!!!
Oh on putting Darius in a bike, I think to be safe, do wait till he is much older when his reflexes are better before you do so. For Declan, we only put him on the bike with the dad when he turned 2 yo. refer to http://mamaseah.wordpress.com/2006/06/30/2nd-birthday/ from that link you can also see that we choose a bike with the baby seat in front of the rider so that if any mishap should happen, at least the rider can still have a slim chance of catching hold of the kid. If the kid is at the back, there is practically nothing the rider can do in time.
Hi Mamaseah,
Thanks for the advice about the bicycle seat. ^^
Catherine had noticed that you were looking at us occassionally too, that’s why she was more convinced who you were.
Heh I was also unsure how to make an introduction when we walked over, so thought I could ‘use’ Darius to help with it, and glad it turned out well! ^^
Nice meeting you too, and could see you and family had a great time there!
