22nd Dec 2008 Outing – Labrador Park

Posted Under (Darius' 4-6mths, Places to Explore) on Monday, 22 December 2008 at 10:29 pm

Following Hort Park (see 22nd Dec 08 Outing – Hort Park), we drove down to Carpark B of Labrador Park, which was said to provide stroller-friendly access into the park.

After parking at the quiet carpark, we walked over to the Labrador Park, which consisted of trees and a fenced up seaside. According to the map, there was a nature reserve area but noticing that it had stairways which were not accessible by strollers, we decided not to go towards there, especially after our experience at Admiralty Park some time back (see Day When Things Go Awry (Part 2)).

The park was quite deserted, except for the cleaners and some Caucasians with their families. It appeared that Caucasians are generally more inclined towards nature as compared to us Chinese, whom are usually found in shopping malls and eateries. ^^|

Happy and relaxing time in the park

Catherine has always wanted to show Darius the real sea, considering that the closest he had been was a man-made beach atop Vivo City (see Water Day for Darius!), so this was a good opportunity to show him one. There wasn’t a ‘beach’ here at the park in the sense of one with sand alongside the coast, at least not in the vicinity we were at. Instead, the seaside consisted of rocks and were fenced up for our safety.

Dark clouds overcasting...

The skies were already turning dark by then, making the sea rather rough. The dark clouds above us showed a possible rain soon but at the same time, it also made the place felt cooling despite being noon time.

With Catherine carrying him, she showed Darius the sea but due to the strong winds, he couldn’t really open his eyes fully, though he had showed interest in the moving waves and the sounds of the waves hitting the rocks.

Deep-in-thought Darius while watching the sea...

Catherine had visited Labrador Park with her coursemates while in university for a biology trip before but from what we saw from the map, we couldn’t make out which part of the park she might have been to. As for me, I have always thought there was some kind of scenic british structure in the vicinity which Mediacorp used to film in their soap operas.

We checked the map again to see what we might have missed, and Catherine spotted the part with a bus symbol, which signified a drop-off point.

We decided to drive there and upon reaching there, we walked up-slope towards a restaurant there, which was situated just opposite a fortress/tunnel like structure. We climbed up the stairs and came to a viewpoint which gave a nice view of the surroundings from the top of the park.

Still, it didn’t resemble the place Catherine had been to, nor the scenery I was expecting.

Anyway with this, we concluded our park trip for the day. Gonna plan another park trip soon! ^^
