About Sleep- Part 1

Darius has been sleeping in a Babysafe sleeping bag at night for two weeks now because previously, he kept kicking off the blanket or pulled it towards him to munch on it. He hates restraint of any kind hence he will kick both legs high up into the air and put them down several times to get the blanket off. I have to repeatedly blanket him because it was all tangled.

The sleeping bag wasn’t cheap, costs us about $40 but it worked out really well so it’s quite valued for money. He still kicked his legs but can’t kick them off no matter how hard he tries. *grin* We can also use it til he’s 9 months or about 78 cm. He’s very tall now however at just 5 months. Should have bought this when he was a newborn.

Now, he sleeps in his sleepsuit, with a bean pillow over his tummy and covered up in the sleeping bag.

But is he hot? I noticed that his back is a little damp when I carry him up to feed during the late night and early morning. Hmm, I wondered if it’s due to the sleeping bag or it’s because he sleeps on his back the whole night without flipping to his side. Or is the temperature not cold enough after he’s all covered in a sleeping bag? Should I let him wear normal sleepwear instead of the thicker sleepsuit?

Anyway, the sleeping bag prevents him sleeping in other positions and by right, this is good to reduce SID (sudden infant death).

We had also changed his pillow at the end of November to the Babysafe infant pillow as the newborn pillow was restricting the movements of his head to the side. We hoped he’ll learn to flip over on his own soon but he doesn’t seemed interested in that.

Well, I have to wash the sleeping bag and thus, yesterday night I replaced it with his usual blanket.

This morning, I woke up at 5am after hearing him kicking and kicking. Was jolted awake when my hands discovered something bony… a pair of legs!… instead of the usual body. It really made my heart jumped thinking something happened to him.

His position and mine was like a ‘T’. He kicked til his legs were facing me and his head was totally out of his pillow. I was muttering, ‘aiyoh aiyoh’ while he was still kicking and looking at me. This woke Hubby up in shock wondering what happened too. oops.

Wondered whether it’s due to his swimming activity yesterday. He has never done that before no matter how he kicked.
