Guess what are his first two repeated vowels?
Ma- Ma.
Articulated in perfect Mandarin’s first tone! (though I have been teaching him the second tone)
On the 22nd of November, Hubby and I were talking to each other when we stopped dead silence, shocked by that clear sound we just heard. Did we hear wrongly? But both of us heard it so it cannot be wrong.
Excitement gushed out of our hearts. He can repeat vowels at 4months and 1 week old!
If you are wondering why we were surprised, it is because we have only been hearing him going like Ah-Goo, Bu, Hoo, Ma, Hmm, in a long stream of babbles but never repeating each.
From babycenter:
4 to 6 months
At this stage, your child will start to babble, combining consonants and vowels (such as “baba” or “yaya”). The first “mama” or “dada” may slip out now and then. Though it’s sure to melt your heart, your baby doesn’t equate those words with you quite yet. That comes later, when he’s almost a year old.
Soo… he doesn’t know what it means yet but I still felt elated.
We quickly tried speaking the words, ma-ma and ba-ba to him again but he refused to utter anymore. He just stared silently at us, probably thinking whether his parents are going nuts, laughing so much.
Then as I prepared him for bed, I started playing with him, hitting his hand and going ‘hoo-hoo’ at him.
Suddenly, he burst out in continuous belly laughters! He was actually amused by what I was doing!
Hubby quickly grabbed the camera to take a video of him, asking me to do it again. I played with him again and again and each time, he laughed very heartily.
We were so happy to see him laugh that we laughed til we teared too. He melted our hearts that day with his first full laughter. (^o^)
