Darius at 4 months old is starting to smile more and developing his social smile at other people. He is also learning to laugh out loud with sound while being amused without touch. His hands are stronger now and will grasp whatever stuff in front of him and pulls them towards his mouth. He produces lots of saliva, drooling so much that we had to make him wear bibs while out.

Darius loves babbling when he’s in a happy mode. Lately, he watches my mouth very intently when I speak to him, prefering to observe and listen then to carry on a conversation with me. He also avoids people’s gaze now if our faces are right in front of him.

His development at the start of 4 months old:

• Coos when you talk to him
• Babble more on his own at objects
• Smiles and laugh with delight when you play with him
• Grasps & Mouths objects
• Brings both hands together, open and shut his hands
• Smile at his own reflection
• Turns towards new sounds (when he hears my voice, will turn to look at me)
• Can see me across the room when I call out to him
• Able to sit upright firmly with just a hand loosely around his tummy.
• Can bear weight on legs and loves to stand while being held.
• Can turn over from back to tummy with slight assistance to first turn him to his side.
• Able to lift his head higher off the floor (90 degrees) and look in front while on his tummy.

Behaviour at the start of 4 months old:

• Enjoys babbling to people when held in a standing position but will only babble to the air while lying down.
• Still dislikes tummy down position.
• Likes watching the television.
• Able to keep still on my lap and look at the books I read to him.
• Dislikes wearing clothing over his head (example, rompers) and will start crying until being carried.
• Dislikes lying down for long. Prefer to sit up or stand with assistance.

Physical Development:

• He drinks 130ml per feed at 3 hour intervals but lesser on some intervals. Total amt is about 790-870ml in a 24hr period.
• Is able to sleep til 6 plus in the morning.
• He measures 65 cm in height and 7.3kg in weight.
