After the jab

It has been three days since the jab and Dar only had a slight fever on the night itself. He was his usual self on Sunday and Monday so we thought everything was smooth sailing.

Not so. It appears that it takes a few days for discomfort to set in.

Dar gave me a hard time the night before as he kept waking up almost every hour, crying very loudly in his sleep. Even with the pacifier, he still cried badly. I fed him water at times or pat him back to sleep and then gave him a milk feed in the early hours. He still woke up one hour later when he usually sleeps and cried. I noticed that he kept rubbing his eyes even while sleeping and after each rubbing, he’d cry loudly.

In the morning, he was rather cranky and didn’t smile much. Come early afternoon, he got better and even drank his feed smoothly.

I then took him out to my parent’s place and my in-law’s place in the late afternoon.

That was when things turned worse.

He kept crying there and was unhappy with my relatives carrying him. His cries were as if in pain and no matter what we do, he could not calm himself down. Distractions only lasted for a few minutes before the yelling cries began. Even with me carrying him, he was still unhappy.

Though he has slept a 30 minute nap and woke up, he still kept rubbing his eyes as if he hasn’t slept.

My mum said this was due to the vaccination as sometimes, it takes one week to recover properly. She told me I should feed him the liquid paracetamol even though he does not have a fever to ease his uncomfort. “If he has a fever, it’s already too late.”

Hmm…We wanted him to fight the viruses with his own body to build his immunity but seeing him so uncomfortable, we quickly fed him the med when we reached home even though he was not feverish. Guess it would make our lives much easier too.

He didn’t like the medicine fed to him in a syringe and we have to give him few sips of water before injecting more medicine. Tried blowing his nose again because he didn’t seem to swallow, which made him cried louder. oops… O_o

So far, he has fallen asleep with the last night feed and we gave him another round of medicine. Hopefully, he will be his usual self again tomorrow morning. Will remember to feed him the medicine next time regardless.
