Every time we visit a shopping mall for the first time since becoming parents, Catherine and I would have to first find out the location of their baby/parents/nursing rooms (the malls named their rooms differently). Darius is very impatient when it comes to feeding time, so we must always be well equipped with knowledge on where to feed him.
Having visited a few shopping malls with Darius and experiencing their nursing facilities, we would like to share our thoughts and feedback. For simplicity sake, we will just address the rooms in each shopping centre as Baby Rooms.
Starting with this post, we will share on the nearest shopping mall to our home — Causeway Point.
There is only one Baby Room in the mall and it’s situated on the third floor, next to the toilets. It is also near the Metro and Kiddy Palace stores, which is well thought of. Besides this room, there are some diaper changing rooms too at each level next to the toilets, but it’s just a room with a sink, toilet bowl and a changing station. We thought it is pretty unhygienic to change Darius’ diapers in such an environment, so we will avoid using it unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Regarding the Baby Room, it has a small glass window on the door, which we believe was there to avoid any ‘unauthorised entry’, such as couples wanting to find a secluded place for their intimacy moments. When we walked into the room, we were welcomed by soothing colours on the walls and furnitures. Unfortunately, it was pretty cold in there and we needed to make sure Darius was well covered to prevent him from catching a cold.
There are two main diaper changing stations, equipped with changing mats and situated alongside the two sinks. There is actually another station situated beside the door but since it has no changing mat, it’s probably there as a multi-purpose station.
A disposable hand towel dispenser is present by the sink, which is useful for drying your hands and wiping the bottles dry after use. A covered rubbish bin is situated at the far end but as it’s pretty small, don’t be surprised if it’s already fully loaded with soiled diapers. There is another rubbish bin near the dispenser but used diapers should not be disposed there, since it is not covered.
Besides the two cosy-looking nursing cubicles for breastfeeding mothers, there are also three cushioned seats for mothers to bottle-feed their children. Since we fall into the latter category, Catherine found a seat near the entrance and was able to comfortably feed Darius.
Overall, the room appears inviting and cosy as a Baby Room, and has comfortable cushioned seats to match. The downside is that there is no hot water available, so ensure you have an adequate supply (note: MacDonalds is in Basement 1, in case you need a source of hot water). On our few times there, we have not encountered a very crowded room, though there were mothers who had to wait for the occupied breasfeeding rooms to be vacant.
