We have been searching for a hoop to be attached to Darius’ stroller, so that he will be entertained while on the move, instead of dozing off due to boredom, which he usually does.
I have been wanting to find one with no toy attached to it, so we will be able to attach items of our choice on it, but to no success so far. It was yesterday after work that I decided to change my expectations and just pick up one, as long as it serves the purpose of keeping Darius entertained.
I dropped by the Kiddy Palace after work, and checked with the staff for this hoop. I tried my luck again by asking if there’s any without toys attached, and he said there was no such thing. He then pointed towards a shelf nearby, mentioning that this was the only model they had in the store.
Apparently I was out of choices, though fortunately the one they had was quite attractive too. And so I bought it at S$19.90 (before discount). According to its packaging, this ‘hoop’ thing is better known as ‘Out & About Activity Centre’. Still, I will refer it as a ‘hoop’ for simplicity (and laziness) sake.
Upon reaching home and after brining Darius out for a walk, I placed him on the gym playmat while I opened up the packaging. He seemed interested in what I was doing and was watching me intently.
I then flipped open our stroller and tried mounting the hoop onto it. The mechanism was a simple one; it was made up of a pair of moveable knobs which you can use to attach to the bars of the stroller and turn the knob to tighten the grip. After tightening, the hoop became pretty secured so there’s little worry that the hoop and toys will fall onto Darius by accident. Concidentally, the hoop is mainly yellow in colour so it matches our stroller too!
Moving on, I then tried mounting the hoop onto the pink bouncing net that we have placing Darius on quite frequently lately. Seeing that he had started to grow impatient lying on the net over the past few days, I decided to get this hoop to attract this attention and amuse him while he’s on the net.
Darius was a little ‘stoned’ initially after I placed him on the net with the hoop attached, but started to experiment with the two soft toys by the sides gradually. He was particularly interested in the green ‘tiger’ (can’t really make out the creature’s species) as his eyes were often glued to it. Ironically, he was playing around with the other soft toy (a blue elephant) using his left hand. We can’t help but wondered if he was aware of his ‘unsynchronised’ actions. Anyway, the soft toys had done a good job in capturing his attention for a good 30 minutes before he started to get impatient.
As for the rattle toy in the middle of the hoop, it appeared to be hanging too low, causing it to be rested onto Darius’ tummy. He didn’t seem interested in the rattle either, so probably we will be replacing it with some other things, such as the loops we used for the gym (see ). Talking about the loops, I’ve bought another packet of 12 loops for such purpose. Will be trying them out soon.
