This is a followup from the incident mentioned in Similac Infant: Change in Quality?
After we changed to a new tin of Similac Infant (also manufactured on 30th April 2008), Darius’ vomitting of milk and uneasiness after feeding have since disappeared.
It was until this morning when this tin of Similac Infant has been used up, that we decided to give that suspicious tin which we left aside another chance. We decided to feed him with milk powder from this tin again and observe his behaviour.
Catherine made a trip to visit her friend this afternoon, who have gave birth to a son last month. Throughout the day, although she noticed some weirdness in Darius’ behaviour as he vomitted out some volume of milk after each feed and kept crying, Catherine thought it was due to the travelling so she didn’t suspect it was the milk powder that may be causing it.
It was only until tonight’s feed that we decided to do a final verification: If Darius vomitted again after this feed (we were at home already so travelling shouldn’t be a factor), we can be quite sure that this tin of milk powder was causing Darius’ discomfort. Indeed, shortly after his feed (which was a slow one with successful burping during mid-feed and end of feed), he spurt out a fountain of milk, dirtying the bedsheet and floor.
He then became very cranky and vomitted a little more milk thereafter. I then prepared another top-up feed of 30ml from another new tin of Similac Infant that I’ve bought yesterday (also manufactured on the same date), and he is now sound asleep again.
So although we can’t understand why this is so, we feel that there is really something weird with that tin of milk powder, which till now we still couldn’t find any scoop in it (I dug into the tin deeply with another scoop and still couldn’t locate it).
Coincidently, the friend whom Catherine visited also mentioned similar observations after she switched to a new tin of Similac Infant which was also manufactured on 30th April 2008. Her son also experienced vomitting and uneasiness in his sleep after taking feed from that tin.
So our conclusion is that there could be something strange with some of the Similac Infant made on 30th April 2008, though not all of them are of the same quality. My guess is that there could be one or more batches manufactured on that date which may be of a different quality, causing discomfort and indigestion in our babies, but not all tins manufactured on that date has the same problem.
Anyway, without any evidence and substantial feedback from other parents, I doubt highlighting our ‘isolated’ incidents to Abbott Laboratories will do any good. Let’s just hope it’s a one-time issue that will not happen to any of us again.

Hi happen to come across yr lovely site. Yr son is cute. I want to share that 1+ month ago, I changed from similac to enfalac and bb also vomit like a fountain. Afterwhich, I changed back to similac, which is ok. Could it be a norm at certain period? Hmmmm..
Hi Clara,
Thanks for your compliments and sharing. ^^
Fortunately Darius has stopped his vomitting after we discarded the ‘suspicious’ tin. We have also widened the feeding hole on the teat so he can finish up his feed easier.
