It was Darius’s first trip out of the house since his return from the hospital. I felt excited and anxious at the same time, hoping things will go smoothly. I carried him while Vince held onto the bag and boxes of cakes. I was worried he might burst out crying and we can’t soothe him.
Fortunately, he behaved very well during the taxi trip and even at his Grandparents’s house. He fell asleep due to the rocking motion and woke up for a feed while we were there, before dozing off again. We were both amazed that he could sleep so soundly there while he usually couldn’t sleep in our own house at that hour. Hmm…why so? We analysed that it might be the fan blowing at him so he didn’t feel hot and could sleep longer.
We had lunch and waited for my Father-In-Law to come home. Darius soon woke up again and while he was alert, we took photographs of him with his grandparents, aunt and cousin and also took a family photo of ourselves. He was quite happy to see so many people and did not fuss at all. His bright eyes looked here and there, exploring.
My relatives commented that his eyes are big. I used to think Darius have small eyes because they were rather puffy when he was born. I actually thought he had Vince’s eyes. As the days progressed however, he started opening up his eyes and it is quite big with double eyelids, like mine afterall. My relatives and his colleagues thus concluded that Darius looks more like me.
I have also since regained most of my figure with the exception of a slight tummy. In fact, I felt even thinner than pre-pregnancy days. I think I lost quite a bit of weight during the sick episode after my delivery.
We headed home after that and ended this mini gathering. It was more like a family gathering than a real celebration but everyone was all smiles nonetheless. It was not possible to hold a celebration dinner with both sides of our family because of my Father-In-Law’s condition.
Mum will cook for me for two more days til 15th and then it marks the end of my confinement. Finally, Darius is one month old!
