Changing of Milk Teat and Bottle

We have been faithfully using NUK teats and bottles since Darius’ birth, as we specifically requested for NUK teats from the nursery at Thomson Medical Centre. The same goes for the Similac milk powder we have been feeding Darius with.

Darius has been drinking his milk rather smoothly throughout the first two weeks of his life. It is only recently that he started to drink his milk very slowly, and one feed will take about 45 minutes to one hour. We are discussing about the possible factor that is causing such phenomenon, and it involves the teat, bottle and colic in Darius.

Cat felt the problem lies with the NUK bottle, so i went down to Kiddy Palace to purchase an AVENT teat and bottle instead. I have also signed up for Kiddy Palace’s 1-year membership at S$10, which will give us 10% discount for all items, except those on offer or nett pricing.

Upon bringing the bottle and teat back, I started washing them using the Pigeon’s Bottle and Vegetables Detergent, rinsing them and then putting into our Tollyjoy steam steriliser to sterilise once before use.

8pm came and Darius started his usual cries for milk. Skeptical, I prepared the milk in the new AVENT bottle and Cat starting feeding him.

To our delight, Darius has no problem drinking from the bottle and the feeding ended within 15 minutes (including burping in the middle), a far cry from our previous torment. However, not all is perfect as he vomitted some milk out after our failure in burping him successfully. Guess he might not have gotten use to the rapid drinking of the milk.

Now he’s sleeping peacefully on our sofa, and hope he will continue doing so with the new AVENT bottle.

Update: Alas, it doesn’t work as it make him drink too fast and cause him to  vomit out milk when we burp him in large vol. So we’ve switched back to Nuk and changed the teat instead.
