The Necessary Evil?

During Cat’s pregnancy, we have decided among ourselves that we would not use a pacifier on Darius as a soother, worried that he might get addicted to it and also causing oral health issues. Well, that’s what we thought ideally.

However, it’s another thing altogether when it comes to reality; listening to my mother-in-law’s advice, I have a bought a pair NUK pacifier (same brand as the milk bottles’ teats) just as a ‘standby’, in case all our methods of soothing him fails, as he’s getting crankier nowadays during daytime.

Soon enough, its inevitable use comes along, as he just couldn’t calm down from his cries and to go into sleep. Putting the pacifier into his mouth does not always help, but it does calm him down a bit. So believeing that as long as we don’t always use it as a soother, its use is still necessary.

Previously, we have also bought a few Bumwear cloth diaper, thinking that we would like to save some money on the disposable diapers.

Since Darius’ birth, we have been using only disposable diapers all along, partly because it was inevitable during our hospital’s stay. And upon reaching home, tiredness overwhelmed us and we simply chose the easy way out.

Now with everything starting to get stabilised, it’s time to evaluate our strategy and so out comes the Bumwear cloth diaper. Simply, it’s a cosy diaper where you can insert a special cloth in which will absorb a baby’s urine, and the diaper will continue to remain dry. And to accomodate for the poo, we have placed a napkin liner on the diaper.

Since I’ve been washing Darius’ clothes everyday, it doesn’t make much difference to me to wash a few more cloth diapers. So far, besides occassionaly leakage (which happens when we use Huggies Ultra disposable diapers too), the Bumwear cloth diapers have lived up to their reputation.

Back to the pacifier, although it’s rather effective in soothing a baby, it is not always successful:
