Have started doing the washing today.
I placed the 12 new Pureen nappies we bought and 5 tollyjoy ones given by my brother, the 6 Bumwear cloth diapers and 14 inserts for the cloth diapers into pails and soaked them for a while with the kodomo detergent, before washing them in more pails of water two three times.
Machine wash would save effort but since they are new and clean, it is a waste to use the machine and spin them for 40 minutes. Hence, I just handwashed them.
For Bumwear cloth diapers and inserts, the seller advised us to wash them at least 4 times before use to make them more absorbent and remove the chemicals used to manufacture them. So I have to pre-wash them at least 3 more times.
A good thing is that, they can all be tumbled dry. So I just threw them into the machine and let it do the work.
From this, I found that since the inserts are thicker, they took more time to dry. They felt wet even when tumbled dry while surprisingly, the cloth diapers felt dry once they were tumbled as if ready to be worn.
Not sure whether this would affect the turn-around time for them to be used for baby or whether they are enough. Well, have to see how it goes.
I hope to be able to use more of them and less of disposable diapers whenever I can. Saves the environment and saves money. ^_~. I’ll be washing the new baby clothes next.
Vincent’s first comment when he saw this was, “Wah, like a salon”. Hee, the way I hang the nappies does look like how the salon people hang their cloths for wrapping hair.
