Edema in feet

These few days my feet are becoming more swollen. It isn’t painful at all but it feels a bit tight while walking and I can’t fit into my sandals properly. Probably because I’ve been sitting at the computer all day recently to do my work and didn’t drink enough water in the afternoon. Yes, one should drink more water to prevent water being retained in the body. It does not mean you are drinking too much that you swell up.

This condition is called ‘Edema’ and it occurs when excess fluid collects in the tissue. We retain more water when we are pregnant and it’s especially common in the third trimester.

The growing uterus also puts pressure on the veins and this pressure slows the return of the blood from the legs. When the blood pools, it forces fluid from your veins into the tissues of your feet and ankles.

A sign of edema other than just noticing that your feet are fat is, when u push ur fingers into the skin, there’s a dent in it that won’t pop up immediately. See how I made 2 ’10-cent coins’ into my skin?

I’m lucky to not get water rentention in other parts of my body, like face or arms…yet.. I still look like the me before and except for my big tummy, people doesn’t notice I’m pregnant, for example, if I sit behind a table.

To reduce or prevent swelling:
1) Put ur feet up whenever possible
2) Take regular breaks from sitting or standing to keep the blood circulating
3) Drink plenty of water
4) Exercise regularly
