Things We Need

We have been fretting over the baby stuff list, thinking of what to get and what not to get for the baby.

Receiving Blanket – Some say no need, just use diaper cloth to wrap, some say it’s better because there’s a hood. You can cover the baby’s head with the hood. So our conclusion is get one since it’s much prettier than a diaper cloth, material is comfortable and it will be useful. If you deliver at Thomson Medical Center, they do give you one as a gift but we think an extra one will be handy too.

Stroller – My mum has a used one which she used for my nephew about four years ago. It’s of course not as trendy as what parents are using now but it was cheap. Only cost about $100 Ringgit. She bought it in Malaysia. We’ll get it from her and try it out first before deciding whether to get a more modern one. However, just in case, we heard from friends that Capella brand is quite good. I do see quite a lot of people using Maclaren brand but maybe it’s a tad too expensive and rather bulky since we don’t drive.

Bathing Tub- Should we get one with support or no support? Seemed that it’s better if we support the baby ourselves. And as the baby gets older and becomes a toddler, I don’t think he still needs support. But we will get this later since there’s still time. Meanwhile, just look around for the variety available.

Steriliser- The Pigeon Steriliser package offer at the Takashimaya Baby Fair (6 Mar to 23rd Mar 08) sounds good but on further thoughts, we decide we’ll only get one later and probably only a microwave type. This is because I’ll be a SAHM and will prefer to do total breastfeeding if possible. Hence, steriliser might not be that useful for me. My mum used the boil method when she was caring for my nephew.

Breastpump- Due to conflicting reviews on whether a breastpump is really necessary right after birth(that is bring to hospital for delivery), we’ll wait and see before getting one. If I intend to do direct breastfeeding, I wouldn’t need a breastpump. And even if we need, we can get it later after delivery. True that there might not be offers since GSS and Fairs are all over in July but it’ll be a waste if I get it and don’t use it.

Swaddle- This is a headache for us because we will be sleeping in an air-con environment. I didn’t think this was necessary since there will be blankets to cover the baby. But we are also worried he might kick the blanket away. So in the end, we decide we will get one for the baby the next time we shop.

Wardrobe- At first I thought to get a chest of drawers but after looking at many, we realised that it’s quite expensive and cost almost as much as a wardrobe. Therefore, we will be looking around for a wardrobe to store all the baby things. Now they are lying in a mess in the blue room. Hopefully, we can get one that is functional and cheap for the baby to use even when older. Children’s wardrobe are cute and colourful but they might not last and probably will crash with the furniture when baby sleeps in his own room in the future.
