Yeah! Finally, halfway through my pregnancy. (total at 40wks).

From BabyCenter: Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She’s also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom, and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. A greasy white substance called vernix caseosa coats her entire body to protect her skin during its long submersion in amniotic fluid. (This slick coating also eases the journey down the birth canal.)Your baby is swallowing more, which is good practice for her digestive system. She’s also producing meconium, a black, sticky substance that’s the result of cell loss, digestive secretion, and swallowed amniotic fluid. This meconium will accumulate in her bowels, and you’ll see it in her first messy diaper (although a few babies pass it in utero or during delivery).

From now onwards, there doesn’t seemed to be much bodily changes til probably after 7 months. I’m supposedly to gain 4kg but I’ve only increased in 2kg from pre-pregnancy. Checkup is always smooth sailing so there’s nothing much for me to do.

We have recently begun shopping for baby clothing and just looking around at prices for baby stuff. Not planning to get some things yet as they are still early. (example pumps, steriliser, bottles, wipes, tubs…) Window shopping is still quite fun as we looked at the huge variety of things available for babies. We never seemed to notice these baby or kids shops before but now, our eyes seemed to be always looking out for these kind of shops and will step in to look around.

We did buy some small stuff and just dump them into the blue room for the time being because it made us feel good to get things for our baby. retail therapy…hee..

For our baby, we are focusing on singing songs to him now and this equipment which we gotten at Mums and Babes is a great tool. We have a 12% discount too with the card so it was cheaper than other places.

It’s the Prenatal Heart listener which comes with microphone which I can place on my tummy for the baby to hear our voices more clearly. I can play the prenatal classical music selections cd to him using the microphone too. We tried listening for the heartbeat but couldn’t hear anything. I think Darius is still too small and we have to wait til the end of the second trimester or beginning of third trimester( 7mth or 8mth). We’ll try again from time to time though.

Our main motive is actually to stimulate the baby with sounds so he will have more developed brain functions. It’s easier for hubby to talk to the baby now with the microphone and amazingly, when he starts singing, baby will kick my tummy to respond. We usually sing three songs. First by hubby, second by me, then the third song by hubby again. He sings his chinese songs and sometimes english and I sing my english kiddy song. We do not restrict to children songs though and even sings love songs we like. Using this equipment, it helps us think of Darius and talk frequently at a fixed time schedule to him whereas it felt awkward ‘talking to my tummy’ in the past.

We feel there’s a connection with baby at each session. It lifts our mood tremendously. ^_~
