Visit to Doctor-16th Week

Finally time to see our little one again!

Though we had been to the doctor a few times now, we were still feeling excited that yay, the day has arrived! This time Vincent hubby remembered to bring along our digital camera to take the video of the ultrascan.

On seeing the tiny one appearing, I was a little perplexed. It was not what we have been seeing. As the doctor got a clearer shot, we realised that the head had turned to the left side and baby was ‘standing’ on his legs, not lying on his back. Ha, he was probably doing somersaults in the womb.

Baby had grown to 9.9cm. The spine was clearly visible and so were the finger bones and leg bones. Hmm, from the scan, baby just looked ‘skeleton’. The doctor tried to find out the gender but with baby lying down this way, it was difficult. She decided to do the head measurement, the buttock measurement and the leg bone measurement first. Everything was good and proportional and she said that baby was growing well.

She then switched to cross section view of the hips and legs to determine the gender but baby was inactive and didn’t want to move. He only bended one of his knee a little when she did a little shake but we still couldn’t make out anything. Though we were a little disappointed, we felt that it was alright. If the doctor was unsure, there was no point if we tried to probe and it turned out wrong later. Hubby said, “As long as we know baby is healthy.”

We will wait patiently for the 20th week scan at the end of February. Hopefully, we can know the gender by then. We wished to know because we can then form an image of the baby, either boy or girl and purchase some blue or pink clothings… hee. I also hoped to call baby by the names we selected while we talk to him or her.

We also gotten our blood test results and everything was fine though I have slightly low haemoglobin levels and hubby had slightly higher level of lymphocytes. Doctor assured us that the results were normal.

For nutrition, she prescribed some more calcium tablets and a bottle of multivitamins for me. She will start me on fish oil in the 20th week.

We also signed up the maternity package with her which starts from the 16th week til birth. It consisted of the consultation fee, the urine tests, ultrascan and the ultrascan photos. As a package, the costs per visit will be cheaper than if we pay each time. Hence, we do not need to pay for them from now on and just pay for the vitamin pills.

Looking forward to the 20th week… :)
