We went shopping today intending to get a playmat and searched for the Classic Pooh bolster and pillow which I saw but ran out in John Little Store that day. We also intend to go Babies ‘R’ Us to take a look. We bought it in the Metro at Paragon and found out later that Causeway Point Metro also stocked this collection so we needn’t have gotten it there. I found out that we have made a mistake and that the playmat we wanted is only available online through small small world. (I love Disney Pooh Bear and there’s so many baby Pooh Stuff!)
We then went on to United Square to take a look at Moms ‘R’ Us and other baby shops. Moms ‘R’ Us was quite a small shop and there wasn’t much people inside so I browse through some clothes and went out quickly. I’m not showing too much at this stage so the clothes are still probably too big for me.
Mums & Babes was a nice surprise and contained many useful baby stuff from overseas brands. Before going there, I have searched around for playpen and cot information online and was undecided on which to get for the sleeping baby. Our queensize bed is too small to put the baby and we might crush the baby if we turned over. We noticed that cots look much more elegant than playpen due to its woody nature with neutral colours like beige, white, brown. They are also much sturdier and bigger than playpen. However they come with an expensive price tag of at least S$300 and they take up quite a large space. Playpens with bassinet for sleeping are suitable for infants til toddlers as they have two levels but the bassinet cannot take heavy weight and the baby will have to switch to the bottom level as he/she gets older and is able to turn over or climb.
I didn’t like the playpens I saw because they were brightly coloured with most colours in blue, yellow or orange and will not suit the colour scheme I have in my bedroom which contains of furniture in beige or white. (I like matching colours in a room to project harmony and peace). So as we walked into this Mums & Babes Store, this ‘playpen’ immediately caught my eye because it was in natural beige!
We were informed that it is more than a playpen. It is also a co-sleeper which you can attach to the side of your bed so the baby can sleep right beside you yet in their own space. I liked the idea immediately as it will be easier to breast feed or sooth my baby if the little one is right beside me. Just when we thought we would get it another time, we were informed that the actual cost was $399 and there was a promotion going for $199 which will end anytime! There were only two of them left in the store and if we don’t get it immediately, they might be gone.
Gosh! We didn’t think we would have to make a decision that quickly and the bassinet isn’t light though it’s portable in a bag. They also offer a membership at $20 for two years and if you are a member, you can get the co-sleeper at $129 which is a steal. So it’s like $149(with the membership) when non-members get it at $199. The membership also allows discount of 12% off purchases.
We walked around deciding and saw a gift basket which will be good for Brother-in-law’s soon-to-be-born son in April. A more friendly staff came and talk to us about it and we enquired more about the co-sleeper. She provided more information for us and convinced us that it was a good buy with her experience with different customers. (Good service staff is so important!). We finally got both.

With the heavy purchase, we decided a mattress was out and will get it another time since they have a nearer outlet in AMK hub. In the end, we still took the MRT and by the time Vincent hubby carried it home, he was drenched in sweat (all the way from Novena Mrt to Woodlands MRT, up a bus to our house). We also had to carry and stop several times because it was just too heavy. ^_~ no choice since it was a promotion.
This is how it looks like setup in our room with the baby pooh bolster. Blends in nicely with the curtains and dresser. We had a hard time setting it up because the instructions wasn’t really clear and the folding pieces refused to budge properly. The side can be lowered to fit with the bedside and raised up again when converted into a playpen.

We packed it back again and placed it with all the rest of the stuff in the the room we termed, ‘Blue Room’. (child’s future room), awaiting the arrival of the little one.

omg, there are so many stores selling baby stuffs in S’pore.
Learnt a lot of new vocabs haha. I saw co-sleeper in Babies R Us, I didn’t know there was term for that hehe, thought it was modern baby’s crib.
Salute your hubby for carrying the co-sleeper all the way home. My hubby once carried a heavy microwave, we took cab from store to station and from station to home haha.
Yar, there’s a baby bloom in 2007 due to the Golden Pig year and suddenly I see a lot of baby shops opening in new shopping malls and baby rooms appearing which allows mothers to nurse or change diapers.
The government is also encouraging procreation so there’s more and more family friendly places, education for toddlers and playgrounds. I’m glad resources are a plenty and I don’t need to go all over the places to search for stuff.
The co-sleeper was sure heavy! On the bright side, it was compact enough so at least we could still successfully board the train and bus with it (though many pair of eyes were on us). ^^|
